Corporate Innovation – two shades of grey

It is clear corporate businesses are Process Efficient – they do things bigger, faster, and have an established way of doing things.  But small, early-stage ventures, are more Creative Efficient – they are more agile and able to look at things differently without the legacy of the past.  It is when they connect and collaborate, that the magic really happens!

The challenge everyone is asking – how do they connect and work out that New Value can be Created and Captured in New Ways.

We heard from our amazing keynote speaker, Prof Fiona Wood AM, AIMI Ambassador, and Director of the Burns Service of Western Australia.  Prof Fiona Wood spoke about her groundbreaking 'spray-on skin' technology ReCell, that perfectly illustrated the dynamic of two distinct innovation forces; the efficiency of corporate/government process and the creative efficiency of a start-up.  Our audience were treated to learning from her expertise and willingness to challenge existing paradigms, and how she brings colour to the world of innovation!

We then heard from Jessica Doherty, Experience Practice Lead at BHP in a fireside chat with AIMI Director, Greg Riebe, who provided an inspiring discussion on how corporates and start-ups collaborating (aka corporate venturing) can achieve big things … “if you want to create big impact you need connect with the biggest organisations”.

Our event was part of West Tech Fest 2023.

A big thank you to our event sponsor, Engineers Australia.
